I've been selected for a ANG UPT training slot. I'm still waiting for the paperwork to get done (the flight surgeon should sign my medical any day, then I start waiting for Gurad Bureau approval which is supposed to take two months before I get assigned dates).

Anway.... I'm anxious to get to UPT and rumor is, if my papers are sent this week, I won't get a UPT date until about December. However, I've heard that its possible to get assigned to UPT slots which have been "dropped" by other candidates, or which have become available at the last minute for some reason.

Does anyone know how to monitor these slots so that I can jump on one when it becomes available?

When I graduated from AFROTC in 87, they had something called a "moment's notice" list. It was for guys who volunteered to fill in slots for those students who for had dates changed for medical or other administrative reasons.

I was originally tagged for a June class date, but got a Feb date that December. FYI...I had the choice of 3 different bases when they called me! My "moment's notice" was really about 6 weeks.

I don't know if they still have such an offer, but I'm sure if you call AFMPC (the manpower folks) when you get your orders and let them know you are ready to go, you might get a call if someone else falls out.

Good luck!

Those slots are usually taken by guys who already on station in a casual status. It'd be hard to grab one as a guard guy at a different base.

The guard owns their slots as long as they can get someone there in time. Usually the guard guys aren't on orders until shortly before they show up anyway, so picking up a last minute slot should be possible as long as there's time to get the paperwork and travel done. Otherwise they'll fill the seat with one of the AD casuals.

Your unit should be able to put you in touch with whomever controls the UPT slots at the Guard Bureau. Just let them know you're willing to start anytime and hopefully you'll pick something up soon.

Good luck.
