I am looking into doing my MEI and ATP together at the ATP location in RIC. I would like to hear from anyone who has gotten any training there recently. It doesn't have to be the MEI or ATP specifically because I would like to know about the current instructor there as well. However, if you have done your MEI or ATP there recently, who was the examiner and what was the checkride like? I did my CFII with an examiner who used to do all their checkrides (at RIC) and I'm wondering if it's still the same guy.

If you would rather not post on the board, please PM me.

These may seem like questions that are trivial, but I am familiar with some of the people involved in the fatal accident in NC and want to be sure the instructor has plenty of experience and that it will be worth my money. I am very familiar with the way ATP works, so I don't need explainations on how the programs go. But any other information would be very useful to me.

I did my ATP at the Richmond school 2 years ago. The instructor, Brad, I think, was very good. From what I remember, they rely heavily on lesson-sharing. While I was getting my ATP, there was also a Commercial-multi student and an MEI. We would all load up and go do/observe manuevers. I really enjoyed it. I think they usually do their checkrides in Lynchburg but we wound up flying out to Rocky Mount, NC to do the MEI and my ride. I felt plenty prepared, but really it was just an instrument rating ride all over again. Not a big deal at all. I chose to have my written done before I went there, so I couldn't tell you about their prep-course.

If it works out right, you may be flying the late-model Seminoles with the Garmin stacks. That would be cool, but the earlier model Seminoles seemed pretty well-maintained too.

Good luck finding more info!

I got my Multy commercial 6 months ago at the Richmond ATP with JB. He knows his stuff and he is very good. Go with no worries. Make sure that you memorize all the A/c stuff that you get in the mail before you get there.
