Do these conditions in the industry justify someone buying a type rating if the money was tangible? Like for a King Air, Lear or Citation?

Thanks!

Not unless you have or can get substantial Time in Type...

otherwise you are simply wasting your money... especially at 600 hours total time...

If you had a job lined up yes, but I would be hesitant to pay for a type out of my pocket with out some kind of commitment from an employer.

Don't bother man,

Concentrate on some of the more traditional 600 hour time building venues. If you were even able to pass a checkride and get a type rating, you would not be taken seriously at all. I'm not saying that to be harsh, it's just the reality of the situation. Build your hours and have some fun. There are some seasonal jobs coming up. Like that operation in Kitty Hawk that operates CE206 tours each summer. They barely pay enough to eat, but you log the legal maximum for as long as you can stand it.

Good Luck,

PM me if I can help.

Thanks for the advice. What type of operation is down in Kitty Hawk? Can you fill me in some more?

Thanks again...

LJDRVR,
I passed a type rating just fine at 660 in a CE-500......so it can be done if you were trained well. But, everyone is absolutely right....dont do it unless you have work lined up.

No offense, but everyone knows a CE-500 is easier to fly than a twin Cessna...

Hey mate, maybe try and apply for a scholarship thru FSI or Simuflite. When I was doing BE200 training I had a scholarship guy sitting right seat with me in the sim and went thru Ground School. Pretty good deal for him. Atleast he had a one up with someone else that may be applying for an FO position. Also see if there are any FSI facility's around you. Sometimes they hire fill in right seat folks when they have a single person going for initial or rec. I had a buddy do that and he got a G4 type out of it a year later. Also got paid a little. Good luck, CYA

Just to clarify, WIA is not a scholarship. It is government funds for people from all professions who have been laid off. WIA = Workforce Investment Act. It is a good way to pay for re-training if you are laid off.
