My paring last month
This is only fiction, any similarity to real life is only a coincidence; the characters have been changed to protect the innocent.
It all started with a back to back line. I had no choice.
So at the end of my paring on the fowling month I get this call from crew scheduling in the middle of the night; we will like to extended you to the 21, my paring ended on the 19 which by the way was my daughter's birthday, I was set to commercial home on the19. My schedule gets me home at 2359 Z on 19 even thought my final trip was done on 16.
After exchanging few points of view with the scheduler he understood that I have been on duty since the 18 (last month) and the fact that I have no more scheduled flying, also my FAA medical exam was scheduled for 20 and I would not be able to make my daughter's birthday. so he didn’t insist any more, even better when I got up and check my schedule he shows me going home on the 18, I could not believe my eyes, that day (17) we had to take the train to the gateway city in Europe and spend the night, when we got to the hotel (on the 17) I call crew scheduling to find out way my commercial was not setup yet (2300 local) the scheduler on duty answer was, oh!!! I heard your name today please give me a few minutes I’m going to put you on hold, he came back after 5 minutes, and said, no we’re sending you home on 19 call me tomorrow goodbye.
Of course I made the greatest mistake of all; I told my family I was going home on the 18. I hang up and felt miserable, I started thinking well maybe if I call after the change of guard on the scheduling desk I’ll get lucky and I get the same nice scheduler that I spoke with before, so I did get lucky, I asked him about my travel his answer was, yes I got you going home on the 18, I told him about my previous conversation with the other scheduler, his answer was I call you back in one hour, so he did, and guess what, he got me going home on the 18. He probably got in trouble not the way we do business here. Well probably he is not going to last very long here he doesn’t fit the profile. All of this happened after I had a nice conversation with the person who is in charge of our pay sheets. This person in question who tries to steal every month from my paycheck, she decided to put my travel of August on the July pay sheet so I wouldn’t be over 65 hours in August, even though the August line was a hard line.
Few day after I got home there was two messages from scheduling asking me if I wanted to do over time. I decided not to answer the calls not only because the person who called me wasn’t the scheduler who sent me home, but just thinking that I have to deal with the person that handles our pay sheets… I don’t think so!
I don’t know about you guys but until mentality in headquarters changes I’m doing the minimum. Trust me I could use the extra money to.
For those of you who are asking your self why I don’t get another job, after I got back from this trip and after nine years with the company yes I’m sending resumes
