Gemini

The new pay scale posted on airlinepilotpay.com for Gemini is deceiving because the company implemented a payfreeze about three years ago and it's still in place; even after contract ratification. Example: An FO hired over four years ago in mid 2000 is still making 2nd year FO pay of $65/hour ($66.30/hour starting 9-1-2004). It's a five year contract and the pay is "amendable" in two years. The new contract basically raised the current pay scale by 2%. Gemini just started a new hire class today on 9-7-2004 and will run another class the beginning of October. Most if not all new guys were hired through internal referrals from line pilots. Unless a side letter is issued, all the new hires will technically be stuck on first year probationary pay until a new contract is ratified.
Gemini currently has 4 MD-11s and 7 DC-10s flying. All new hires should go on the DC-10 due to existing DC-10 pilots wanting to transition to the MD-11. There is a three year seat lock (except for upgrade). The most junior captain was hired around Feb 1999 with a master seniority number of around 80. Last new class hired was around Spring of 2003 but none of the guys finished IOE and were all subsequently furloughed. There are roughly 162 pilots on the master pilot (not PFEs)seniority list not including the 9-7 new hire class. A new hire DC-10 driver (won't be typed) can expect to be in MIA for 18-19 days straight on reserve. Most lines are reserve lines with few hard lines. There are some rare gov't flying (AMC) out of various air bases in the U.S. and around the globe. Currently all DC-10 flying is out of MIA for S. America. A new MD-11 driver will get typed (due to seat swapping during cruise) and can expect to be on the road for 18-19 days straight; flying from LAX/JFK to various destinations in Europe and India. Some Pacific flying to Asia as well on the 11 but those trips go senior.
Gemini's got a good group of pilots, time away from home is rough though. Hope that helps you.

Thanks for that good info, Chronic. I'll add a comment on the site reflecting your pay freeze. But it's still somewhat confusing to me.

Are all the pilots frozen in the year of pay they were in when the freeze occurred? Why is the freeze in place?

payfreeze

Yes, all the pilots are efffectively frozen at their respective hourly wage according to their seniority. The language of the new contract did not address the payfreeze. Around July of 2002 the pay freeze was put in place and is still in place today despite the new contract. The pay scale posted on airlinepilotpay.com is fairly accurate (rounding to the nearest dollar amount.) That payscale reflects a 2% increase in hourly wages. The newly ratified contract is effective 9-1-2004 so if a pilot was frozen on 2nd year FO pay then he would go from making $65/hour to $66.30/hour (2% increase.) Hope that clears the confusion.

That statement is dead-on. As a former G-Spot F/O, the long trips were made bareable by flying with some of the finest crews around. I will continue to re-tell the many stories.

Best of luck to Gemini.
