Anyone heard anything about Gemini Air Cargo - the DC-10/MD-11 operator? Any hiring expected? Any big contracts gained/lost? Anyone currently there care to comment on pay, schedules, bases, days off, etc.? Would any potential newhires likely start in the DC-10 or the MD-11 if hiring were to resume or continue?

Do pilots tend to stay at Gemini or do they move on to Fedex/UPS/Polar at the first opportunity? Is this place a good place to be? Do you like working there?

Great bunch of people

We are the 1st new hire class in a year and half. We started Sept 7th. Another one started in Oct, there is one scheduled for Nov and I think another for January.

This is what I have heard. By no way is this official.

I was hired there in March 2001. I was hired into the MD-11. A lot has changed in mgmt etc., but it was kind of the "best of the worst". Pilots were home based (the company commercialed you to where the trip started). Pay wasn't all too bad, if you counted per diem (granted, not the kind of pay you would get at Fedex/UPS in the 10 or 11).

I was given notice of "reduction of work force" eleven months with the company. I haven't really talked to many of my friends. I keep in touch with a few of them. They have all gone to either JetBlue, or Fedex, so it seems safe to say that the next better offer usually gets taken.

You can check on pay for a lot of airlines at "www.willflyforfood.com". I don't know if GAC is listed, but you can check. There is also good interview gauge for a lot of carriers.

Hope this helps, but it has been 3+ years since I worked there.

Any current 'G' spot guys, please chime in and correct me if I am wrong.
