Does the G550 SC(single cue) flight director use a 3 degree turn initiation? One of the planes in our fleet is currently using the Honeywell Epic system, and a major complaint from all of the pilots is the Flight Director in Single Cue "whispers" for you to turn. The turn is shown on the flight director as a 3 degree turn and is very hard to recognize. After flying it for a year, and not getting any better at using this system since day one, I have been using Cross Pointers and it has made all the difference in the world. Thanks for the help.

I always preferred the dual-cue at the airlines. I wish the Collins system in our plane gave an option, but it's just the single-cue.

It's got the option of all three:

single cue

cross pointers

HUD symbology

I'm a single cue kind of guy. I don't really understand what you mean about a 3 degree turn initiation. It just kind of rolls in smoothly.TC

Lets say you were off the localizer a half degree, and needed a ten degree turn to correct, the flight director would show an initial turn rate of 3 degrees. And because of the "soft" definition(clarity) of the PFD it is hard to see that you are not flying in the groove of the single cue flight director. Once you start your turn, and match the 3 degrees the flight director ordered, the SC then only goes another 3 degrees towards the correction needed. The flight director in the GIV is different in that it will show what is required immediately up to a max of standard rate. The turn initiation of the CP Flight Director on the Epic system is the same as the SC in the GIV.

Thanks for the help TC. BTW thanks for the help a couple of years or so ago with the NAT procedures. I am in London now, and appreciate the help you provided for my first crossings.

You must have taken what I said and done the exact opposite... ;) TC
