Fuel prices affecting pilot training?

I'm curious if some of you who work in FBOs and/or as instructors have noticed if the rise in fuel prices has had a noticeble effect on the number of new students. My FBO has added a $10 p/hour fuel surcharge which isn't too bad, but I've seen a lot worse. Just curious - thanks!

8/hr for a Single, 16/hr for a twin fuel surcharge.

Oh and 55/hr instruction, up from 45/hr.

A school I used to fly at is under new ownership, and is charging 85/hr for a POS 152.

We are at $80 + the surcharge ($3~$4) for a 152.

The bad one is the Seminole at $226 + surcharge.

I wish the flight schools would just charge a dry rate and have people fill up when they got back.

I've just heard a lot of complaints people still fly. The people who I don't see as often is the weekend warrior out for a $100 hamburger. I got a buddy with a Cherokee 140 that used to fly into my airport a couple times a week who hardly flies a couple of times a month now.

Haven't raised our prices. Its getting harder not to though, that is for sure. Business has not dropped off at all as for training, but traffic has decreased a bit.

we do not have a fuel surcharge but the price for a 172 is now 95 an hour up from 85 still 35 for the instructor. Block time is now only 90 an hour up from 78, gas here is expensive in flagstaff 4.21 for self serve 100LL.

$167/hr dual for a 172sp here in Orlando.

I wouldn't be surprised that in a few more years we will see $200/hr dual to get your private. I guess Pilotyip was right about the pilot shortage...nobody will be able to afford training.

wow - now that's high. the brand new C182T G1000 aircraft are even cheaper than that out here in CO.

but I agree. I don't know how anyone will be able to do this in another 5-10 years. The cost of aircraft, insurance, fuel, and rent is going through the roof.

well, the fuel raised all our aircraft rental prices across the board, as a result, no one dropped, however there is a MUCH larger demand for the C152s instead of the more expensive C172 and we dont have enough 152 to go around... people are flying less because of this, but not dropping out
