I will be moving down to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami FL over the summer to finish up my degree and was wondering if anyone could give me any info on the area flying jobs. I would prefer to have either a right job with a charter place but any multi job would be nice. If anyone has any info on anything it would be greatly appreciated! If there are some places that have a bad rep that you know about I’d like to hear about it too. Thanks in advance! By the time I get down there I will have 1500TT and 3-500 Multi.

Sorry to say but there is not much work down here for low-timers I know for sure that all flight schools are saturated with instructors. You might be able to to find some gig as a multi-task co-pilot for a 135 oufit. I've researched and found most places like you to have 2-3000 hours just to fly a twin-recip, probably for insurence purposes. Check out Ft. laud Executive airport they have alot of chater companies. hope this helps.

Actually there is a ton of work for low timers in South Florida as long as youre willing to whore yourself out and pay for training.

Most of the charter ops will take anyone with 1000 TT as long as they shell out 10-12k for their simulator check and are willing to work for 18k a year and work 28 days a month. At my old employer we had guys with 300 hrs riding shotgun in Lears.

More and more operators are also going to way of contract pilots to avoid paying salaries and benefits.

In my opinion South Florida is the worst place to be a pilot. Lots of competition from PFT whores and greedy 135 operators looking to take advantage of pilots.

If you PM me I can give you the dirt on specific operators you may be looking at down there.

Flydog-

Could you please tell me all the info about the good and bad places you know of? Also could you tell me exactly what place is the one that hired low time pilots who paid for their training? Thanks... I PMed you...

I think Lynx International out of FLL has a PFT program. I don't know what it costs to get an SIC check in a Metro but I understand they reimburse you every month over 24 months? They work you hard and they days are long. The metro doesn't have a can so you'll find that people leave a mess on the floor of seat. They pay about $300 a week. I heard all of this from a friend who was there so things may have changed.
Bimini island air has a co-pilot deal also but that's about all i know.
Both are out of FXE. These guys are right, there is alot of whore jobs if you want them. As far as instructing goes its becoming a nightmare just to get into a hodunk FBO.

STLCFII,

Fort Lauderdale is a fantastic place to make money. Like flydog said there are some shady places but most are not that bad. The most money I made as a pilot was flying Lears and Navajos @FXE. The "dumbest" thing I did was leave that job.

My suggestion to you is to find an FBO that is also a charter co. Try and get a job working the line, soon you will find yourself in a cockpit making a ton of cash. When I say "soon" I mean at least a year or soo. I was lucky enough not to have to work the line when I started flying Lears, since I already had a bunch of time, but I know of alot of people that do it this way and are rollin in dough now. Most of the Lear operaters I know there pay the NBNA avg. Some do not unless you can "negotiate" it.

One company I know that has hired in the past from the line is Personnal Jet @FXE. Very friendly people and have been in business a long time with top knotch aircraft.

Good Luck to Ya!

P.S.
Whatever you do, "DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR TRAINING"!!! Sign a contract if you must but please don't buy your job!
