It must suck to be a pilot for US Airways. 16+ years of seniority, taking pay cuts and you're still facing the same ugly choice:
1) give up even more concessions
2) lose your job and take another job almost certainly paying even less than in (1)
(1) has to be the leading scenario. It's worth it to take pay cuts all the way down to the point where what US Airways is paying you isn't any better than what you could get elsewhere. And what is a 16+ seniority pilot going to get elsewhere?
It has to suck. These guys are screwed.
Oh, and don't tell them to let the airline fail instead "for the good of the profession". All that would do is release a lot of high quality aircraft and facilities for JetRed, JetMauve, JetChartreuse to use to fly against the rest of the airlines---with _even lower_ pay.

Frontier Airlines confirmed it will announce on Thursday new service to
Philadelphia. The Denver airline invited the media to a a press conference at 11
a.m. EST in Philadelphia "for some great cheesesteaks and details about the new
destination including schedules and introductory fares."
Mike Boyd, an airline consultant in Colorado, said adding Philadelphia is
probably a good move for the 10-year-old airline.
"It probably is. It's a strong east/west market," he said.
He pointed out that Frontier will compete with US Airways on routes from
Philadelphia to the West, but won't likely compete on routes with Southwest
Airlines.
Southwest will begin service to Philadelphia in May.
