Wondering if anyone has ever flown out of Freeway Airport (W00)? It is on the east side of Washington DC, just outside of the FRZ but still in the ADIZ and I guess it has a pretty short runway at 2400'.

If so, what kind of reputation does the main flight scshool, Freeway Aviation have there? Good planes? Good MX?

Thanks for any info!

I've never flown into there but I have always wanted to. Heard that there are some power lines that make landing there fun. Anyways if you don't mind a drive you can go to Manassas. I would guess its about 45 mins or so drive from Freeway Airport. Dulles Aviation has a good selection of planes and instructors. About 25 planes and 25-30 CFI's. The mx there is good and they are a part 141 school. If you have any questions then you can give them a call at 703-361-2171.

Thanks for the info, tried looking up Dulles Aviation before on the web but their site is horrible. No links to anything, I wasn't even sure if they were a flight school. I have heard good things about them though so I will probably check them out too for fun.

Still pretty curious about Freeway though... Anyone else flew with them?

The only thing that sucks about Dulles Aviation is their website. I talked to them about it since mid 90s when I was a student in there.. They still don't update it. At one point they had pictures of all the planes, rates, etc. but that is gone now.

Other than that, it's a great facility with top notch training.

I instructed out of Lee Annapolis for a couple of years. Freeway guys would come over to do touch and goes now and then, seemed like a good operation from talking to a couple of students and one instructor. Never flew in.

Got almost 2,000 hours from Freeway. Got all my ratings post PPL & instructed there for almost 2 years. I visited about a 1/2 dozen flight schools in the area and chose them because of their maintenance and the airport has been owned by the same family for over 50 years. The current FBO office used to be the original hangar and Stan's (the owner) house when he grew up as a kid. It was just a great feeling. I still have a key and I left about 3 or 4 years ago. He told to me to keep it because I was always welcome. The only thing missing is a place for food. Of course I did live off the vending machine there for 2 years. Part 141, too.

Used to work at Dulles Aviation. I agree that it's a good school- they were certainly a great flight school to work for and took good care of their employees.

Had an old student that transferred to DAI from a school at Freeway. Apparently he had been training there for almost a year (had about 75 hrs) and his instructor refused to sign him off. I took him on, spent about 5 hours covering materials with him and he passed his checkride. Don't know what the hold up was.
