Found this on the ALPA boards...
Mesa is allowing 28 of their pilots to bid Captain slots at Freedom. If
the TA is rejected they'll have to return to Mesa. It's a gesture of "good
faith" from Freedom, and it's blessed by ALPA.
I just spoke to one of our furloughed Pilots who is in training at Freedom.
In the event of a Mesa TA the Freedom "new hirers" were promised seat protection since most of them
were hired to be Captains. Well, surprise, surprise, JO lied to them. What
they're being told now is that they will get type-rated and may get to fly
left seat for a few weeks. But once the Mesa class of 28 finishes training
in March, they will take all the left seats and bump the non-Mesa Pilots
back to junior F/O's. Freedom has agreed to give those bumped pilots a one
year LOA since they realize these 13-15 year ex-usair types won't commute
to PHX for $20/hour. And those guys probably won't be able to collect
unemployment benefits now. About all they're getting out of the deal is a
free type rating.
