I got passed over last year, and am looking to get passed over again this year. I know that if it happands I will be compensated, and that I have up to 7 months to get out of the Navy.
BUT my question is how SOON can I get out? Can I get out before the message comes out, and still collect my compensation? If I wait until after message release, how SOON thereafter could I get out, and collect my compensation? What instructions are there that explain this stuff? My detailer is not really helping on this... Is there anybody out there who's been through this?

All those rules are under USC 11 I believe. Plenty of places on the net to research that stuff. They are all DoD wide.

You have 180 days from the time the board results are released. That date becomes your ETS date. Any request to get out earlier then that has to be requested and approved. One thing to take into consideration on your time you are leaving is that if during that six months you will go over a time in service milestone (ie. going over 12 years etc), you will get a pay raise, and then that could increase your Sep Pay. Plan accordingly.
