Watched a 206 takeoff from an intersection at RYY after I landed. Nothing unusual, but they lost engine power not long after. Couldn't make it back the the airport, so they found a field on the Kennesaw Mountain National Park grounds. Looking at the video, its a great off-airport landing. 3 aboard walked away without a scratch.

Take the plane apart? I hope that was just stupid reporter garbage. Unless it was a catastrophic failure, why couldn't they just fix it in the field? Then they could just fly it out.
 
I seem to recall that in NJ (I know this didn't happen there), if the plane doesn't land at an airport, the only option is on the back of a flat bed.


I just saw the film. I believe the DEA lost a pilot and 206 near Chicago a few years ago. I think it was in the early days of the whole Lyc 540 crank issue.

I may be wrong on this, but because the aircraft landed in US National Park they not be allowed to fly it out.

Then again, it would be the DEA against the National Park Service. The DEA probably have bigger guns.:p
 
Causin trouble in Atlanta, though the controllers here are too nice to ever say it. Dallas OTOH...

Its lonely bein the hubble guy.. but I have two engines and a janitrol to keep me warm & happy.
 
Not knowing about the field length, etc. there is also a ton of liability (on the national park's part) to have an aircraft that just made a forced landing in the national park attempt a takeoff.

All you need is a flatbed and a couple A&P's. The wings can be removed in less than 30 minutes and it's ready for ground transport.
