As a current freightdog begining the job application process at the regionals I was wondering how feasible it is for a first year FO at say, CoEx or elsewhere to hold down a regular part time job to help with the bills, or would the schedule preclude any such effort?

Clueless and curious.

Not sure about COEXs schedules, but when I started I took on a 'part time' (35-45 hours a week) job and still have it three years later.Just be honest up front, tell them you're starting a new career and make sure they are flexible with you enough that if you cant make it in for whatever reason, they understand.

Thanks, good to hear its do-able. I hope I don't end up having to pull an extra 45 a week, how will I be able to use my long awaited travel benefits?

Not sure about aother regionals but AWAC ops spec's state that pilots are not allowed to fly for reward in any capacity outside of company flying. That's not to say there are some that do fly part time they are just very careful about it.

part-time jobs are definitely feasible, it's just a matter of that other job's flexibility in schedule. if you're going to commute, however, that makes it that much more difficult to find time for that second job, especially on reserve at the airline. xjet's policy is no flying jobs outside the airline, since any work-for-hire adds into your yearly/monthly limits, etc.

i know lots of guys, though, who work second jobs at pizza places, home depot, best buy, bars/restaurants and a myriad of other schedule-flexible type jobs. sad isn't it?
