Hey all,

I've done a search on this, and came up with too much stuff from the majors, etc to sift through....... so here's my question:

I just got back from a vacation in Alaska. Did the Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway trip. Float planes everywhere, in and out every 30 seconds. It was truely beautiful, and I could see myself living there. I'm an outdoorsy type of guy, and I think it would be right up my ally.

My question is how does a wet behind the ears private pilot go about getting into something like this? I've heard that Alaska time is everything, so would training up there be the best bet? I've got a long way to go in my ratings, but I'm 34, single, and no ties. I work as a chemist now, but pretty sure I could find something in the way of gov't work up there, hopefully. What would be the best way to go about a flying job during the summer months up there? Just find a job, pack up, and continue training up there?

Any suggestions/recommendations from people in the know would be greatly appreciated!

Yep. That's the way to do it, Pilgrim. Just do it. That's how I did it twenty-someting years ago. I found out that the growth in Alaska is directly proportional to the number of bodies that show up in the summer.

Just go there. They will come.
