Hi,

I am going to be flying from the US to Canada in a friends plane and I am not sure how to file IFR to there, I fly there alot with my airline but they always file so I don't know if it's just a relular IFR flight plan???

thanks.

You can jsut file IFR

You may already know this:

Only real difference when you file is they have different rules for determing if you need an alternate or not. If you do not need an alternate I believe you have to put "no alternate IFR" on your flight plan.

Call 1-888-CANPASS before you leave. Give them some info (# of pax, citizenship, passport #'s, DOB's ect.) Then, just as soon as you land, call canpass again. 9 times out of 10, if nothing significant has changed with your flight, they'll just give you a customs # and let you taxi directly to the FBO without having to clear with a customs agent. Piece of cake.

also you can call their 'FSS' to file using 1-866-wxbrief. Or mabye its 888-wxbrief, i can't ever remember. But 800 does not work.

It's been a while, but I believe you can also file your outbound (return to U.S. leg) at the same time you're filing into Canada with U.S. flight service. That can save the hassle of trying to remember the Canadian number.

You got hired to fly a jet with the way you spell? No wonder we get paid the way we do.

He might be the guy that is sitting across from you at the interview table. Aviation is a small world, better remember that.

Doesn't both the plane and you need a radio license?

No... Besides, how does a plane obtain a radio licence???

Havent been there in 3 months but..

Dont you have to call CanPass? They are going to need a passenger manifest, PIC information, time of arrival with at least 6 hours prior notice, something like that. There is some stipulation like that.

Also they would like for you to arrive within 30 minutes of your proposed arrival time.
