I know the Border Patrol isn't the military but this seems to be the closest board for it. I have been looking lately at what I'd like to do and I had a friend tell me to look into flying for the Border Patrol/Customs. I have searched their website a little bit and from what I have found out you first need to become an agent and then after a set period of time they will review your qualifactions as a pilot and then possibly select you from there.

My questions basically are is that the way the hire pilots? I know that they fly mostly helicopters but I have my CSEL and CMEL w/ around 700 hrs - would that be good enough? Another other information would be apperciate as well. Thanks.

Never figured out why they feel a need to use rotary wing obs a/c. You can pretty much look at anything you want with a f/w for a lot less $$$$.

Hey, answered my own question, it would be cheaper to use a plane, so better get a more expensive, more prone to breakdown aand harder to fly helicopter.

I dont know if this helps, But a buddy of mine use to be a border patrol agent and from what he was saying, it could be done, but its akin to getting onto an aviation unit with the pd, only a lot harder...
