As somone who's just converted an FAA ATP to an Australian ATPL, I can confirm it's not a straight swap. It's not quite as insane as going from an FAA to JAR license but there are exams and a flight test to do.

I understand that. However, most countries have their own requirements and certifications if you want to fly for hire in their country. I was just trying to figure out how much ass pain is involved. Sounds like quite a bit from what I've gathered so far, but not so much as to be insurmountable.

While I know that I can get my ATP equivalent in Australia if that's the route I end up taking, the real question in my mind is whether an airline in Australia would even consider hiring a foreigner. I've heard that Australia only issues work visas for 2 years. What airline would hire me for only 2 years? I'm thinking not many... Still looking into it regardless. :)
