I would like to ask any flightworks pilots some questions. I have done a search and found some pros and cons to working at flightworks.could anyone tell me about how many nights a month you are away from home, how many hours a month you fly.and where do you do your aircraft training. thanks

i would like to know as well. there have been several threads in the past, but not much recently about the staffing situation with regard to tdy @ khef. i assume that new-hires are ce-5xx fo's. if this has changed, what seats are currently being filled? ....already seen the website, just wanted some additional g-2.

Iona,

The number of nights away from home a month varies drastically depending on fleet and mission. I am in the Gulfstreams and average about 1 or 2 nights away from home a month (not counting training)! Yeah, that's right, 1 or 2! I would have to go back and look, but it was somewhere between 15 and 20 nights for 2004 (not counting training). As for hours, the same rule applies; I flew about 100 hours in the last 12 months. You do the math! This is definitely not the case for all the fleet, particularly the Light and Mid-size aircraft; hopefully someone from those fleets will reply with their typical RON's and hours. I know their point of view will be very different than mine. All initial and recurrent aircraft training is conducted at Simuflite for all aircraft types and all crewmembers are typed regardless of position(at least in my fleet).

casper1nine,

The TDY in KHEF was a temporary situation; the new facility/hangar is opening this month (January, 2005) and KHEF based crews have been and are continuing to be hired as aircraft are added at that location as well as KRYY. No, New-Hires are not specifically "CE-5xx FO's". New hires may be assigned to any aircraft type and position. I do not represent HR or Operations, but from my perspective the assignments are based on many factors including experience level, company needs, preference, etc. Also, my understanding is that all pilot candidates must first apply using the website application process now, regardless of any hand delivered resumes or company referrals you may have.

BTW, Great group of pilots to work with and I enjoy the job. There are always things that could be done differently or be better from any given point of view. You tend to read a lot of that on these boards and not much of the good stuff. It is a good environment and I would recommend it to any career professional pilot.

thanks moose.

any light or mid-size flightwork-ers care to chime in?

thanks for the info flyingmoose.I fly for a regional right now and am thinking of going back to charter.I really enjoyed the diversity of 135 ops.hopefully some of the citation guys will respond with qol info. thanks

I think you will find that there was quite some internal drama at FlightWorks the last time someone from the Citation Fleet was candid with their opinions on this board. I would not hold my breath to see anyone from that fleet post opinions again...

I got the chance to hang out with a couple of FlightWorks pilots 3 months ago. The general feeling I got from them is the work you like slaves with no real days off. Also the company requires you report all tips and give them to charity. There was some definate harsh feelings about there schedule or lack of it. But this is only 2 pilots so don,t take there opinion to the bank. Do some more research. Good Luck

Is it me or is there an influx of regional pilots all the sudden not "liking" their jobs and flooding the corporate market?? I guess when you have 800 hours all you want is to fly a cool RJ and when reality sets in, all you want is QOL.

drama is bad...

well to avoid any nasty employment drama, perhaps any flightwork-ers with additional comments could please pm me. i've talked to a few of the 1159 and g4 drivers in the past, and they seem happy. i seriously doubt i'd qualify for either of those birds, so i'd still like to hear from some cessna and hawker drivers. pm's appreciated.

flyflyfly kilroy thanks for the reply and info.cosmotheassman i never said i did not have qol at the airlines i was asking what it is like at flightworks and i belive i got some good replys.i do not want to start a debate on airline vs corporate, that has already been done.just to set the record straight i did not have 800 hours before going to fly an rg i had about 3000 flying part 91/135 before the aircraft was sold.i hope it never happens to you.
