So I am planning on attending Flight Saftey this spring and I was curious if anyone had any comments on the school. I have visited the campus once and was really impressed. From what I am told it is considered the best "civilian flight training" you can recieve. I would apprecitate any comments on Flight Saftey.

i suggest you do a search of this forum and of the training forum. i would search "flight safety", "flight safety international", and "FSI". should get some good results. the arguments over FSI, DCA, and mesa have been run into the ground on this forum. i hope this helps!

I did my commercial/instrument/single and multiengine land ratings under the FAR 141 program at FS Academy back in '94, was great training if you got matched up with good cfis, back than they were doing a lot of forign students and IP's were being swapped all over the place, I had two IPs in the first month, the 2nd one was a canadian asshole and I requested a change and the 3rd cfi was awsome.

Good way to get your training done quick, I'm just glad I had the GI Bill to pay for half of it.

I visited FSI last year as well.. great place, people, and aircraft. I have no question the training is top notch. BUT, the price tag scared me silly -- I had my private and it was still going to cost me almost $50k to get my initial CFI.

So, I went the local FBO route, and have been happy I did so. I'd venture to say I'll complete all my training with all CFI ratings in less than half the cost of FSI. All the while, with an income, benefits, etc.

But, if you have the money, or large loans don't bother you, FSI is probably a good, quick path. It really all depends on individual circumstances.

Good training is dependent on the instructor. A good instructor at a small FBO would be just as good, if not better than, all the flash and glitz of an FSI type school. What the big schools offer that the small schools generally don't is a well structured program. They also have multiple aircraft so you shouldn't have to worry about aircraft availability. The last item that could be very important is that they offer a chance to meet a lot of pilots, both fellow students and instructors. When you trying to get a job those kinds of acquaintances are invaluable.

You didn't say what you are planning to do at Flight Safety? Are you wanting to complete your Private? Get your CFI? Just curious. I agree with the other posters. You could do it for less, but they do have an excellent reputation. Where do you fly out of, normally?

I think you just need to keep flying around with wierd freight dogs you meet while they are giving warbird rides BFE georgia....

:)

Go to ALL ATPs or your local flight school, not FSI. If the current experiences of a good friend of mine are any indication, FSI's expensive and lousy.
