Good Morning All,

I am putting this under training first and foremost because searching for flight planning material will be a new experience for me. I am one of those spoiled individual that has it all done for me at work.

I was looking at flying up to Alaska from Chicago, (multi) and was wondering if anyone had any good websites or tips for picking up flight planning material?

I know about AirNav, and with my MAC I have a had a horrible problem with AOPAs flight planner.

Thanks for your help,

AA

Actually, I'd be surprised if AOPA had much to offer. CHeck out the Alaska Airman's Association: http://www.alaskaairmen.com They publish a Guide to flying to and within Alaska. You'll find it if you follow the "for sale by member" link on the first page. The website doesn't have much of a description of hte book, but it''s much more than a booklet, it's a pretty hefty tome and has a bunch of good information. I have a very early copy, from back when it was a work in progress. You can get a copy free if you join the association ($40)

Probably the best source I've found for Canadaian charts and such is Sporty's Pilot Shop. Nav Canada publishes WACs, Sectionals, and Enroute charts which are pretty much like the US charts. Sporty's carries alll of these products. You'll want a "Canada Flight Supplement" which is sort of like the US (NACO) Airpot/Facility Directory, except it's a different format, and one book covers all of Canada. One very useful chart that Nav Canada published is the Alaska Highway Chart. It's at Sectional Scale and has all the same detail and information as a sectional, but it follows the Alaska Highway, which is the most common flight route to Alaska.

I've flown Alaska to the lower 48 (or vice versa) 11 times in singles and light twins. I'm more than happy to answer questions that you might have (If I know the answer) PM me or post them on this thread.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply,

I just walked in the door, will give you a PM tomorrow.

Regards,

AA
