Flight Options website lists ATL and DEN to chose from for domiciles. How long does it take, on average, to get MCO? Do you airline into your trip?

I believe the pilots from the last hiring class (2 years ago??) are still in their ATL domiciles, and won't get to change until we have a contract.

Are you considering applying at FlOps? If you've not done so, I encourage you to do a search and read up on the current state of affairs. FlOps is NOT a good place to be at the moment, nor for the forseeable future.

Dude, unless you are blind, crippled or crazy, you don't want to even think about Flops. Things are so screwed up at this company you would be better off staying a flight instructor or working at a crap bag fright operation. Untill we get a contract Flops is an employment undesirable.

I just need something to hold me over until I can get to some FBOs and network with some other companies. This would be my first try at the 135 world. I am at Piedmont not so things can't get much worse for me. I think I might need to take a step back to take a step foward.

Yes they type the FOs, but you then have to sign a training contract. Net Jets types theirs too.

Why not go to Net Jets? With the new base list that they are going to vote on MCO would be a choice. Plus, you wouldnt have to network with anyone else if you did that.

Piedmont, Huh? Ask around and see what your fellow workers know about flops.:rolleyes:

I would like to go to NJ but I can't wait that long for an interview right now. I will put Flops as my last option but I still need to look at it.

I am also looking at Air Logic Solutions out of Lakeland, but have yet to find much on them.

Asking other Pied-monsters is a bad idea. Most of them are just looking for the flowthru and can't answer any of my questions. Most say "Flight who?"

You will probably stuck in ATL or DEN until the second contract . The first is just setting things straight for the current pilots. Plus there will probably be 8 to 10 years before you can upgrade from the right seat of the beechjunk.

If you don't have any jet time keep looking elsewhere I have been hearing things about how tough the check rides are and how many who were hired in the last round were washed out before getting on line.

With all of the problems here the current pilot work force is not receptive to new hires AT THIS TIME !!!

That's exactly what I'm doing. PBI based to start class. I live in MCO. We'll see what happens with the IBB. May not have to do the drive at all when I'm online. Took about 6 months from them receiving my app. till receiving a class date if you are wondering on the approx. timeline.

Personally, I'd stay at Piedmont for now and get your stuff in at NetJets in the meantime. I think the wait would be worth the reward in the long run.

Another company with an Orlando base (SFB) is Allegiant. They are hiring a lot of guys right now. I had an offer from them prior to interviewing at NetJets. Hope that helps somewhat.

You won't be able to live in MCO and come to work for flops (at least under their current policy). You have to live within one hour drive of your base. They are currently only offering ATL DEN and LAS, I think. So plan on movin within an hour of any of those three places if you come to work at FLOPS.

Also as you are probably gathering by now, this is a rotten, sh!tty, place to work right now. I have every confidence that post-contract it will be a great place again. But right now dude it blows.

If you come to work at Flops right now plan on this:
1. 5 am stby at the FBO every morning, weather you have flights or not. Weather your plane is green or not, weather you have a Capt. or not.
2. 12-14 hr. duty days regardless.
3. Ham or Turkey sammeys EVERY day for lunch.
4. Pressure from management to fly broken airplanes.
5. Go home day hassles EVERY week. Might not get home until day nine.
6. Oh and, let's not forget as a new hire you will get to work a 8 on, 3 off, 7 on schedule.

If this sounds better than Piedmont I feel for you. As for the advice to talk to your fellow pilots at Piedmont. I think what has been suggested is that you ask them about our CEO M.S. I think they have some past experience with him.

I was in one of the last classes to get hired 2 years ago. At that time we had a couple of guys hired into MCO. You may actually have a chance of getting that as a domicile since they probably won't have anyone with any experience to interview. I suggest going to the interview on FLOPs dime and tell them that you will need MCO. We airline on day 1 anyway, so who cares where you live. Lots of times we have guys airlining passed each other across the country on day 1? OCC can't keep track of anything!

Lots of guys are discouraging employment at FLOPs, I say welcome aboard! Come get the type and leave whenever you want. We all know a training agreement is only worth the paper it's printed on. I never even signed one when I got here. I would love to see everyone in the first new hire class in over 2 years leave within 6 months.

If they go and hand bases out willy nilly then they might want to give the tier 3 guys their base back. This would be a bad move. Those who had a T3 base would be up in arms over a "out of policy" move like giving a new hire the base they want.

Post contract will determine what bases are available, but handouts before would not be a good idea.

In retrospect, I wish I had stayed at PDT. If you're looking at moving to MCO, check out Allegiant. As someone else pointed out, they are based at Sanford and a lot of their flying is out and back on the MD80. If your ultimate goal is a major, staying in the 121 game will do you much better than FLOPS.

We have no existant work rules here at FLOPS, have to argue with maintenence over every discrepency you find, pay sucks, benenfits suck, etc. Looking at starting year 6 in a few months and not an upgrade in sight, let alone being able to bid into a different, larger plane.

Look elsewere ... PM me if you'd like.
 
Be careful with Allegiant, they have a few other bases that they hire into. So SFB may not be a sure shot if hired. Good luck with your search, I just escaped regional hell myself and I'm not looking back! I was commuting out of MCO for 2 years and it was annoying, now I simply drive to and from work.
 
Any place

Any place would be a better place to work then Flops. Not to offend the 500 hr. wonders out there that will eventually be coming Flops but at your current state of professional development you would be a hindrance rather then a help. I know that the prospect of a type rating and time in a jet are very compelling, but believe me you are not ready for our type of operations. Find yourself a nice safe commuter job or stay a flight instructor for a while longer, bag food at Kroger, work in the paint department at Home Depot, drive a garbage truck, anything would be better then wasting your time at Options.
