I talked to Gary over at FE today and I was getting set up for an interview. When asked if I met the minimums under 135.243 I said yes thinking that I did meet the minimums. Now I do meet the minimums except for the one thing I completely forgot about, the X-country time of 500 hours. I Have only 367 X-country hours which are building up quite rapidly. The question is whether there is a way around the 500 hours? I know this might be a stupid question but I thought I would give it a shot. Any info from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
Go read your bible (FAR/AIM) son. There is no way around 135 mins, and if you dont have them be honest with Gary. You do know that 135 XC time is airport to airport, not 50nm or more, right?

Cross country time

I would like to expand on this a little more, even though the thread started as Flight Express. At what point would you start counting you X-C time airport to airport to meet 135 mins? For example, can you go back and count dual when you were a student pilot, or count all solo X-C before your private? Someone once told me it was after your commercial you could count x-c airport to airport because you were working toward a license or rating previous to getting the commercial and then the definition of x-c was over 50nm because you were working on a license or rating. I would like some help because I'm getting all my time straight and accurate and the 135 mins are my next goal. Do you guys keep separate columns for x-c and then 50nm x-c or just go back and review x-c miles when needed? Thanks. If this was covered before please post the thread. See ya.

I had the 500 hours cross country prior to meeting the rest of the 135 mins. however i have talked to a few of my friends that are now flying, one of them has 2 columns for x-country, one for airport to airport, and one for over 50 nm. If you have an electronic logbook this is not nearly as big an issue, because there is not the same limitation on space. Most of my friends just logged the over 50 nm. and then when it came time for the first job went throught the logbook and added the point to point x-country stuff. after you have your first 135 job, it really becomes a non issue, because you have already shown that you qualify, and you will also have more time.

i completely agree with dorsal. when it comes time for the ATP, XC does still mean 50nm, so that's what I have always logged. it's a pain in the rear to do it, but for any 135 job, just go back through your logbook and add it up. if you have 1200 TT, you should have no problem meeting the 500 XC.

How far back do you go to get the X-C time. Do you count all from day one including student pilot days. Thanks.
 
Not sure GA, but I am sure someone can chime in with the correct answer. When I applied for my first 125 gig, I, fortunately, had more than 500 XC that was over 50NM. I never went back and added in the airport to airport. My guess is that this 500 XC requirement by 135.xxx is ANY cross country time logged, so as a student pilot it would count. That is a guess only.

Yes, Airport-to-Airport does not have license restrictions. It is just airport-to-airport. Don't try to read anything extra into it.
