Wondering if anyone has some info on Flight Express? I've checked their website, just wondering if people have first hand experience. How is the company to work for, runs, pay, mx, etc. I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Time

But things can change with time!! Info might not be current...

Dude, I just did a search and there is info dated this month! I'm sure it is real outdated.

I have a former student working there flying a 210. He seems to be enjoying it. Typical night single pilot freight gig. The mx seems to be okay and the runs are pretty typical for this type of op. They did have a 210 loose an engine recently and the pilot did a good job landing it on a street. The only problem my student has had is two birdstrikes, two nights in a row, one going through the windshield.

If you are interested in working for FLX, I recommend calling the pilot recruiter at 407-895-0453 ext. 613. His name is Gary Hillyer, and he can answer all your questions. He is also on flightinfo from time to time, using the handle John Glenn.

Personally, I enjoy working for Flight Express. Schedules vary depending on base location. Maintenance, from what I have seen, is very good. The planes are old, but safe. Pay is similar to other 135 companies and can range from 20k-40k.

birds...

What type of birds? That must have been intense for him, especially the one that went threw... I once hit a hawk on takeoff in a PA-44. Hit the right main strut... aborted the takeoff, no damage...

Working for Flight Express!

Have been working for FLX for a year and it has been a very good experience. You fly the C210 for atleast 6-8 months before you move up in the Baron. The starting pay ranges from $19500 to $36000 depending on dutytime. You are getting paid for duty time and not flight time. It is a great place to gain experience.

Min. times

What are the min. times they are hiring? I was told they have flights that are VFR only for lower time pilots. Is that true?

Thanks

Mins for FLX.

It should be FAR135 IFR mins, but they have hired people with a little bit less to fly VFR until they got 1200. However, I don't think they are continuing with that.

It's a part 135 job. Go in expecting it to be uncertain, and I suspect you'll be fine. For my part, I was just hired, and I've little usable info except that you should concentrate on instrument skills for the training/checkride. Ernst (D.O.) is nothing if not a straight shooter. Austin (Training) really knows his stuff, and while he may seem cold at times, it's for your benefit. He knows the regs like the back of his hand, and he is, in the end, on your side. For a guy who doesn't even have a multi rating, it's a great opportunity. I hope it is for you too. Regards,

I worked there, and I have nothing but good things to say about the experience. It's also a good way to get your first 500-1000 multi engine hours.

I've been working for FLX for almost a year now, and I still love it. It is a great way to build experience making your own decisions instead of just nodding and saying, "yes captain." The pay and flight time aren't bad for a freight gig, and if you're not happy, the powers that be will usually work with you until you have the run you want. The MX is excellent, and the people are great. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
