I have an immediate need to pass the flight engineer written exam, so I purchased the ASA book, and the downloaded the dauntless software. While studying, I've found that the two don't agree on the answer to some of the weight and balance as a % of MAC problems.
Invariably, when I work out the problems I get an answer in agreement with ASA, but since this is a little more complex than the w+b problems from the CP exam, and I'd like to know that I'm doing this right...
What I've been doing is:
-Find the BOW CG location by multiplying the %MAC by the MAC and adding to LEMAC
-Using this, get the BOW moment
-Using the table for the question multiply the wt at each station by the station to get the station moments
-sum the moments, sum the weights
-divide total moment by total weight to get the overall CG
-subtract LEMAC from CG
-divide remainder by MAC to get %
Incidentally, this can take me up to 20 minutes per problem... is there a fast way that I'm not picking up?
Thanks,
-TF
