Over the last three days I overheard two different crews state that they flew round trips thet were empty both ways. When they inquired with the dispatcher they were told the company wanted the completion factor. Delta pays for ASA gas and they have been squealing about fuel conservation even stating they will be monitoring APU usage at gates with AC. ASA management puts a flier about business ethics in our mailboxes when they need to look in the mirror. DAL is getting screwed by ASA management by the empty flights. And LeStupid is probably getting a bonus because of it.

Another normal day at the airlines!

We've always done this. We get paid a fee per departure for revenue flights even if they're empty. There was a time they would even fly repos under an extra section with no pax to get reimbursed for the flight. I don't know whether this is all approved, but it doesn't seem right. The corporate culture and company ethics flows from top to bottm, not the other way. If there are concerns about ethics at ASA, they need to ask where it starts.

This stuff happens all the time. The last time I did this, the flight before mine was a couple of hours late and we left at the same time. The flight before us took all the passengers and we were empty. We could have flown formation on both legs. The only fun was fighting over who got the fuel truck first for the flight back to the ATL. We asked flight control why we had to go and it was specifically stated - Completion Factor.

I think they're doctoring the numbers here lately anyway. It'll be interesting to see what the on-time DOT numbers are as opposed to the OURASA numbers!

We were flying empties during bankruptcy at CMR. Stupid is as stupid does.

No kidding! I remember a couple times I got called out to do a late night ferry flight. We would fly a CA (1 person in the plane) to some outstation and drop him off at like 3am, so he could sit at the airport and fly the 7am flight. Then fly empty back

The best was taking a part someplace and it turned out to be the wrong part.

According to the CEO, we (comair) got paid for ferry flights and maintenance flights.

So that is why...I would fly almost one empty airplane a night and this went on for months. I never could figure it out. I wonder if the company still made money with cruize set at the barber pole. Burned a 1000 pounds or so more on gas but at least I got an extra 5 minutes of sleep when I would get back.

I believe Delta pays for the gas...so it doesn't have an effect on our beloved "profit sharing"!

Yea Fred B. said Delta pays us for all the ferry flights and such. However, his lips were moving, so it is possible he was lying.

I did a maintence ferry flight From CVG-GSO-ROC-CVG last winter. We took a mechanic with us from CVG and dropped him off in ROC, in GSO we picked up a tube of valve grinding compound (seriously:confused:) which the mechanic took with him to ROC. This was on a -700, we burned 15,000 lbs of fuel (and three cans of Red Bull).

If the flight runs more than 4 hours late, DAL doesn't pay. DCI ASA Agreement.
