Hi,

I have noticed a lot of guys who have there ATPs also have done their FEX exams. I am guessing that these are the flight engineers exams, please correct me if I am wrong?

So after you do your ATP exam you should do the FEX are there any others that should be done?

Do many airlines require you to have these completed before applying?

Thanks,

IF

The ATP and FEX exams are very similiar, take one right after the other and you won't have to study for the FEX. With the exception of a few random passenger carriers and the cargo ops, no one really flies planes that require a FE anymore.

justApilot,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

So is there s differance between an FE and a FEX?

I noticed Fedex like you to have:

Current FE Turbojet Rating or written (FEX or Basic/turbojet)

there are probably some others.

Regards,

IF

FEX -- ADX

Whilst you are at the FEX/ If you have an ATP its not that much more to also get the ADX ( discpatch license. THere is I think 10 questions that differ. In fact in my class I sat the study with 4 pilots going through ATP and I just added the Dispatch bits..

to contradict what justApilot wrote , most cargo companies use aircraft that require an FE. I have two good friends that are FE, one on a 727 and the other on a DC-10. FedEx still uses a lot of AC that use a FE and will for a long time. BaxGlobal uses the DC-8, a very popular cargo airplane, can't time out like modern aircraft. I'll bet money the DC-8 will still be flying in 20 years.

Is an endorsement required for the FEX or dispatcher writtens? Can I simply schedule an exam and go take it on my own accord or are there certain prerequisites?
