Just curious if anyone out there from either FEDEX or UPS knows if there is a preference between PIC time Jet vs PIC time turbo-prop. I have a chance to either upgrade to a turbo prop and hold a line building time faster or upgrade to an RJ reserve and building time slower. I do have about 2000 hours in a glass cockpit, but it is all SIC. Any advice???

Turbine PIC is turbine PIC, props or no props. Take whatever is going to build your time the fastest. Good luck.

I would take the Jet job. You won't be on reserve for long, and it is extremely competitive out here right now. My opinion...

Would there be a seat lock if you went to the left seat of the prop?

One option is to take the upgrade on the prop, fly as much as you can until the seat lock is up, or until you can hold a line on the jet. This way you could get an extra type rating out of the deal, and not have to sit on reserve.

PIC!!!

PIC is everything to a future employer. They are looking for responsibility, accountability, and for a person who is in charge of the final decision. It makes little difference to them (FedEx) if it is Turbo-Prop or jet, turbine time is turbine time.

Let me say it again...PIC, PIC, PIC!

Build as much time as you can as fast as you can to be as competitive as possible so when the hiring does finally turn (in 10 yrs) you will have a great chance

Best of luck!

:p

In a word-- PIC. You are demonstrating that you are the captain and "pilot-in-command".

For what its worth--I would go for the upgrade where I could log the most PIC time. Turboprop of Jet--go for the PIC. Best of luck either way.

Cheers.

Interview cycles always start with Jet PIC applicants then move on to Turbo Prop PIC then respectice SIC. There are always exceptions- but JET will usually carry more weight.

Good Luck

I fly with lots of guys who have only turbo prop time. Both military and civilian. It seems to make no difference at all here at FedEx. I only had 250 hours jet (all F/O) when I was hired. Had 7,000 turbo prop about 3,000 PIC.

No hiring at FDX for forseeable future.

JJJ is right

It all depends on your seat lock. If it is short (1 or 2 years) go to the prop first. Fly your ass off. Get your 1000. And then move over to the Jet. By then you will have the seniority to hold a jet line, and life will be good.

1. You will build PIC faster.
2. You will then get two types out of the deal.

Good luck!

Get the PIC

Turbine PIC is jet or turboprop but when it comes to an interview, jet time (prefferably SR-71) gets the nod!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going with the turbo-prop and quick PIC time. Only a year seat lock and an op. to fly alot. :)
