I'm sure it has been discussed, but can anyone living in the northeast (EWR, ABE, PHL) reply or PM me info on what your schedules are like or what one could resonably expect after 1 year, 5 years on line. Basically, can you get schedules that either start or end with deadheads to this area and how many days are these trips on average. Thanks in advance.

727 has the majority of flying into PHL and ABE right now. Also, it has a good bit of EWR including airport standby lines.

This month there were 14 lines on the MEM 727 with something in the 3 cities you mentioned:
3 with 1 week of ABE layovers
2 EWR airport standby - front/back DH
2 EWR layovers - front/back DH
3 EWR w/ at least 1 front or back DH but no EWR layovers
4 PHL layovers - front/back DH

MEM A300 had 23 lines w/ mostly EWR DH on the front or back.
Of the 23,
2 had front/back EWR DH w/ pure EWR layovers
2 had front/back DH to PHL with misc cities while on the trip.
2 had just back PHL DH
The rest just had at least 1 EWR DH on either the front or back of one of the trips.

ANC MD-11 had 6 lines w/ DH to or from EWR. 4 front DH, 2 back DH
All were on just one of the line's trips.

MEM MD-11 had 30 lines w/ usually 1 EWR DH on the front or the back of 1 of the long international trips. There were a few on some shorter domestic trips. Nothing pure EWR w/ both front & back DH.

The rest of your question is a little tough to answer. After 1 year, I’d guess you MAY have a shot at an occasional DH to EWR if you stayed on the 727 panel. I’m sure there will always be someone senior parked on the airport standbys and pure city flying. However, as that fleet shrinks, the flying will probably move to A300 or 757 (if we actually get it). 5 years…. Very hard to say. I doubt your could regularly hold anything "pure" in and out of those cities after 5 years in a right seat. There will always be guys who live in/near those cities that will pass on upgrades or different equipment to keep those lines. I don’t know about 1 year or 5 years but stick around long enough and I’ll bet one of them could be you.

Hope that helps a little.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed reply. That was awsome. One thing I was still wondering is the average days off a month?

Fedex uses 4 week and 5 week bid months (more 4s than 5s). I don't know if this is written in stone but it seems like there are usually 8- 4 week months and 4- 5 week months (makes 52 weeks total - works for me). Min days off for lineholders or reserves is 13 on a 4-week and 16 on a 5-week. This Nov is a 4 week month. 727s have a high of 16 d/o and a low of 13. So does MD-11 LAX and ANC as well as A300 MEM. MD-11 MEM is 20(just one) down to 13. I didn't do any math, but I'd say average is ?14-15 overall. Mucho flexibility in dropping/picking up trips so you can usually have as many days off as your wallet can stand (unless they're short in your seat).

Thanks once again for the detailed response.... So getting a line of time with the deadheads to/from your home will add even a bit more time at home I guess? I greatly appreciate the info. as I am still working to find some contacts and haven't had a direct answer to my questions. Thanks again.

In short, Yes. You don't have to commute to MEM and get to be home for the first and last layover of the trip(assuming D/H on both ends).

Think--NWA flight from MEM to PHL on monday morning...20 hour layover. Fly PHL-IND-PHL every day(or night), then NWA flight from PHL to MEM on saturday(after another 20 hour layover).

Being realistic, this kind of good deal probably won't be the staple of you schedule for a long time, but you'd be surprised how quickly some 'pretty good deals' come your way.

Good luck.

does the company count days that you are at an outstation but not working as time off. as in a layover away from home for a weekend.
