I have a job offer to fly as a contract pilot in Nigeria. Could that present any issues or problems with background checks when going through the "process" at FDX? Especially, the USPS 5 year residency requirement. Or maybe with the TSA?

I would be staying in country for appx 8-9 months during a year period.

Tryin not to be paranoid, but absolutely don't want to destroy any chances of working in the US again.

Thanks for any experiences and/ or FACTS regarding this situation.

I was with a guy who asked that question DIRECTLY to the FedEx recruiters at a job fair (I was in line behind him, overheard the entire conversation, and spoke with the guy afterward).

He had been flying relief work in Afghanistan, not for the military, but for some private relief organization. He had been "living" out of the country for 7 months.

FedEx told him to "try again in 5 years". This was a USPS requirement, and they did not have any leeway to waive it.

This was from all 3 pilot recruiters who were at the job fair about a year ago.

I wonder how FedEx dealt with this issue when they got the USPS contract. I’m sure there was at least one guy on property that had not been living in the country for all of the 5 preceding years.

What if one maintains a residence in the US, is working for a US company, but take a short term overseas assignment like 4 months in duration?
