Hello,

I have a question regarding the operation of N registered Fedex aircraft in Europe.

Are these aircraft based in Europe and are they flown by European based FAA licensed crews?

Thanks,

IF

I don't know about the registration of the planes but I do have a friend (US citizen) in the states who usually flies out of Oakland but also bids trips in Europe. He is an A-300 FO.

Airplanes and aircrews are US-based.

Thanks TonyC,

So for example I have seen Fedex A310s in Europe. Do the crews operate the aircraft across the pond and then domestically in Europe and then fly them back to the US?

Cheers,

IF

Typically, the purpletail Airbii remain in Europe, and the crews begin trips (and end trips) with a commercial passenger deadhead to (from) Europe. In between the deadheads, they'll fly any of a variety of combinations of intra-European schedules.

Purpletail MD-11's, on the other hand, typically begin and end trips in the US, fly across both oceans in both directions, and make various and sundry stops along the way.

Exceptions to the above are numerous - - emphasis on the word "typical."
