I am a water logged poolie, too. My buddy in class right now said that they were told, by various sources, that Flight Ops asked for 2 classes in June, up to 24 in each class. The Chief Pilot told them up to 200 total newbies this year. And he got confirmed numbers that there are 250 retirements this year.

However, I guess the finance guys haven't given them the green light. So, no classes yet. So it isn't "juicy" but it is a good rumor.

Not sure about the 250 retirements this year...the website officially lists like 71 for 2004, 153 for 2005. That, of course, is based purely on age 60; no early outs, no medical retirements.
As far as the June classes thing goes, per another thread, I saw an email requesting volunteers for NEW HIRE 727 SO instructors for the 23 and 30 June classes. That's about as official as the training dept could receive. As always with FedEx, until the newhires are painted purple and sitting in the AOTC classroom, I'm not sure how much I can trust it!
BTW, I believe the SCP has stated, and would probably answer if asked, that he is always the last one to know about stuff pertaining to hiring.

Retirement numbers are:
2004 - 71
2005 - 125

Since quite a few have been going to the back seat the actual numbers are lower.

retirements

Maybe they are also counting the retirements from last year that were higher than expected and they were going to hire for but didn't? Just thinking out loud...

retirements...

Don't forget we are in negotiations. If negotiations get ugly, guys may say; f-this, I'm retiring early.

Or... Once a new contract is locked in (with a better retirement plan), guys might say; thank-you GOOD NIGHT! (and retire early)

I'm not sure how the retirement/benefits department would have advance knowledge of early departures, but it is something to chew on.

Retirements

Does anyone know how much how far in advance you have to "put in your papers"??

I haven't seen it as a VIPS option. . .

Add a week to those dates for indoc. Those are actually for the system classes, and idoc is the week prior...from what I hear, and for what it is worth since I am still treading water and thus outside looking in.

Need the info...

Anybody have an update on the June classes?

I'm looking for any glimmer of "official word" going out.

I’ve been in the pool so long I can’t remember what is was like walking on dry land.

........... swim swim swim swim swim.......

Only 7 days, 12hrs, and 17min..............

........until June 1st, FedEx's new fiscal year.

FedEx's crystal ball shows dry feet soon after that.

I'll make a wager that the pool will be drained by the end of june. Classes on June 21st and 28th.

........... swim swim swim swim swim.......

going crazy...

Is that FedEx crystal ball plugged into FedEx of just hooked up to an wire hanger antenna? I'm hanging on every word.

The last rumor I heard was June 23 and 30th classes. Where did you hear the info on classes on June 21st and 28th?

My June plans to feed my family with a little war effort are all screwed up now. Wait by the phone is heads—tails I work for food. Flip……

Classes normally start on Monday. The 21st and 28th would make sense. I am guessing the new hire classes would be as late as possible in the month to give you guys max heads up after a new fiscal year.

Maybe the 250 number is a forecast on how many we're going to lose as a result of the Enhanced Oversight Program:p

Last time I talked to KD she said they like to give 30 days notice but that hasn't happened yet this year, so I'm guessing we'll get 2 or 3 weeks max lead time. Does anyone know if they have to wait until June 1 for "official word" on classes?

Keep drown-proofing, poolies. I have faith you'll all be here in your blue suits and red ties soon. Just to clarify, the June 23 and 30th class dates people are hearing about are GROUND SCHOOL dates (posted in training dept). As of right now, Basic Indoc is still 10 days long (they are trying to get that changed to 7 days initially) so the start dates would be June 13th and June 20th. A friend of mine stated that the FY05 finance planning meeting ended up authorizing a total of between 130 and 160 new hires. The ACP is the one who sends out the training letter and he has stated numerous times he's always the last one to know; I would expect about a two week callout if it's going to happen. So next week I'd say start camping out by the phone.

On another note, last week I saw three folks in the cafeteria in "interview uniforms". It sure is great to see blue suits with name stickers on them. I'll keep my eye out for more this week.

As a 727 S/O LCA, I can tell you that we are training about 40 new-hires starting the first of next month (these folks are both poolie and professionals). When new-hires get to the IOE phase they have completed all the ground school and sim events and are about 7 days from activation. The latest word coming from flight standards is that we can expect to see addional classes in June. Again, the standards folks are not the decision makers but they do get quiries from on-high about training capacity and thru-put. So from my end things are looking very postive for more classes this year. Hang in there folks!

Any idea what they mean by "sick leave abuse?" I've had both a child and a wife in the hospital in the last year, and used a bunch of sick leave. Do I make the sh!t list?

One of a number of reasons why it is NOT in compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and why it should be grieved.
