Interviewed second week of Feb. Got the pool letter exactly 3 weeks to the day. Most of the other guys in my group got the pool letter at 2 weeks.

Heard some of you guys just got letters and no calls, wow what a stressful few minutes between FedEx dropping the letter off to reading?!

I interviewed the second week of Feb as well. Got the pool letter 2 Mar. It was dated 1 Mar. Put it in the frame over my wedding picture. I know of 3/6 from my group that got it the same day. The rest I havent heard from yet. I think the 3 that have not heard were prior military with airline experience. Im hoping they are just waiting for records from their old 121 jobs to come through.
BTW, just a letter, no call.

Interviewed 22-23 Feb. Got the pool letter 27 days later as did another guy in my interview class.

Interviewed 21-22 Feb. Received the Pool letter on 22 Mar, exactly 4 weeks later. Those that did not get hired, 4 in our group of 10 received them on the 21st of March. Five that received the pool letter got it on the 22nd. One is unknown.

Man, 50 to 60% hire rate in your interview group. That sounds more like a Southwest interview. What do you think happened with the ones who didn't get hired?

That is low. I think everyone is surprised at the number of seemingly good dudes not getting picked up. But, that 50-60% is offset by other groups. In my group of 6, we were 100%.
I just heard of 2 guys getting rejected that I am totally shocked about. Seems like they're changing things up down there in MEMfo. No rhyme or reason to the timing of notification whether accepted or rejected either.

We were 3/6 with the 7th person unknown. I was surprised too at the low hire rate, but it sounds like other groups fared much better.

Let's face it they can be a lot more selective. I too know of someone that was very qualified and was rejected. It was a shocker. I suppose one never knows what goes on it someone else's interview. I do know that some folks should be careful what they say at lunch, though.
I'm liking this purple water.

I always thought the most important part of the day was sitting in the "bull pen" between interview segments, when senior pilots would just happen to wander in and sit and talk to the interviewees. Do they still do that?

Yes, they sure do. I agree this is very important. The interview is always on, if you will.

So far my beginning of mar interview stats

6 start
5 move to second day
me and one other did not make cut (took two weeks to hear)
3 are still waiting

For me it was the panel interview all the way. I knew when I walked out, I was finished. I answered a question badly and it seemed to snowball. My fault for not thinking the q through but I am hoping next year turns out better.

what was the question?

Yeah what was the question?

Also what seems to be the experience level of the guys not getting hired? Is it all over the map or is it more mil or civ guys? Former 121 guys? Any ideas?

Going to an interview in April. Hope that 50-60% is just a fluke.

The question was why I thought I was turned down. as for your next question We had 2 civilians 4 military. The military were a mix 2 straight military two prior now working civilian. So far both civ and prior with civ have been turned down. I was one of the civis turned down background is furloughed legacy. Do not think it really matters, just think I screwed up the panel interview. Hoping for the the best for the other two in my group and best of luck to you.

My own opinion is some of the people currently on the property right now would not have been hired using the criteria currently in use. Both SWA and FDX have gotten "tough" lately, and I don't know if it is a legitimate concern about the quality of previously hired pilots (...I think not likely) or the basic human nature part of realizing they can be as picky as they want with 10k apps on file.

For those who don't make it--don't feel like a failure. There are plenty of very talented aviators getting turned down these days. Back up, reassess, and keep poking around. FDX and SWA are NOT the only good jobs out there, and in many cases guys and gals do get a second shot at these places. When will SWA and FDX get easier? About 3 months after United is out of recalls and is hiring, Continental is hiring 60/month, and JB/Virgin/Airtran continue to snap up dudes. Right now guys are leaving class at JB, Continental, and other places to go to FDX and SWA, and as long as that kind of stuff is going on you can expect the "top of the food chain" carriers to have be tough.

If we appear to have a strike looming--all bets are off. I'll be there are a bunch of folks would (at least temporarily) stiff arm an interview until AFTER the nastiness is over.

Guys,

I just received a letter from the FAA saying that Fed Ex checked my record one day after my interview. Is this a good sign? Or do they this on all, even those they do not want to hire? Thanks.

I got the letter and a week later got the rejection letter. It is just part of the process.

I was just going to ask that question about the FAA records check. I just received my FAA letter March 25th. I interviewed on March 7-8th.

Tomorrow is 3 weeks to the day.......praying

I suppose no news is good news?

Do they still make you take 3 benadryls and then evaluate your performance on the simulator??

....Hey dude....we arn't bustin your rocks about your upcommin AirTran interview...so chill out.

I mean...no one has asked you if they do a sim where the entire plane explodes due to undocumented hazardous cargo that was placed aboard the aircraft illegally. And..of course the whole company folds as a result....

Oh wait...that was Value Jet...my bad.

Anyway...If you don't wanna work here...don't apply.

Oh yea.... good luck on your Airtran interview...it certianly would be a shame if all your d!ckish posts were to be traced to you and it would somehow affect your ability to get hired....seriously...hopefully that won't happen. Seriously...god help you if your name gets assosciate with your posts.... we wouldn't want that.

Is it two weeks out? Your Interview?

Well good luck.

Many of us will be very interested to see how that interview goes.

Sorry to hear you got bad news from Fed Ex. Do you plan on trying again in a year? Why do you think you messed up the panel interview? Did you know when you walked out? Did they give you feedback? Well, I hope you get a call soon from one of your other top choices. Take care and fly safe.

I do plan on trying harder in a year. I also hope that next year this time I am in a position to not want it. I think it was the panel interview b/c of the responses to my stories. Some not what I would expect and some not good. Not to go into to much detail, but if an interviewer calls your actions complacent, chances are slim! Maybe it wasn't the panel but I am convinced. And it is only 11 months left. A while back someone posted a yahoo room for those waiting for the second round. If anyone has it, pls repost.
