Heard from the FedEx CP today that hiring will slow for us. 8 - 12 a month for awhile until the Bean counters shake some issues out.

Who is your source? This info doesn't seem to jive with anything we've been hearing for a while now (300-400 for the year). Unless they are planning on a huge hiring binge later in the year, 8-12 per month won't cut it.

If the rumor is true (or maybe even if its not) I do believe that the company thinks the rule is going to change within a year. That would certainly be a good reason to slow hiring down until they know for sure. You know how they loathe to get fat on pilots, better to run lean.

All you guys out there waiting for a chance to live the dream can thank all the over 60 dudes for that too.

His source was, as he said the CHIEF PILOT.

I too heard the same message from the current system chief pilot (JL).
The hiring is projected to slow for the next several months and possibly pick up again after the next seat bid closes.
.
Re the new bid...this was also mentioned in the same conversation. Looks like maybe a bid to take place sometime in May or June.

According to the letter from the VP of Ops that just came out 2 weeks ago:

"As you can see, we will require additional pilots and great amounts of training to meet these challenges. We were successful with our large bid of 2006. The training letter for that bid ends in the June/July time frame, when we are planning a large system bid for the April/May time frame. This bid should recognize the system form changes through 2008 associated with the 757 introductions, DC10 conversions, 727-100 retirements and possible FDA opportunities."

Anybody else read these things? The big question is the "possible FDA opportunities."
