Mine expires this month. Seeing as all the majors are retiring their 727s, does anyone know if this will still be a requirement (except for FedEx/UPS) or if it's still a good idea in order to show "committment" to the industry and as another criteria to set myself apart? Seems like a waste at this point unless one factors in the cargo carriers. Anyone else been thinking along these lines?

anyone's guess ...

Until we see widespread hiring again, no one really knows how important that FE written will be. IMHO most airlines are selfcentered and don't give a rats behind about "commitment to the industry". ie when applying to carriers not requiring an FE written I would intentionally leave it on my resume. What they want to know is that you meet their minimums, not someone else's. So, that is why I think we won't know until the hiring picks up again and we can see the new requirments. If I were you I'd let it expire unless I was gunning for FEDEX/UPS (which I would pursure if I wasn't hired by the company I plan on retiring from).

It's not worth it unless you want to fly as a cargo dog for Ryan, Kittyhawk, UPS, or Fedex. If you aspire to work for a cargo carrier or even Champion Airways--then get your FE written.

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool:

It maybe worth it to keep your FE current. Doing this would give you the option of airlines that do require the FE (ie UPS, FEDEX, DHL, ABX...)

When applying to airlines that do not operate equipment requiring an FE-remove it from your resume.

Why limit yourself--keeping it current is a small price to have a few more options in todays industry.

Just my thoughts.
