I searched the forums but couldn't find anything specific to my question..

Does anyone know where you can get an FE rating on a 727 or like aircraft? Seems many people are paying for their 737 type to go to Southwest, I'd like to get my FE to move on to cargo.

Thanks for the help!

Don't cargo outfits want PFE's ? That's what I see many of them wanting in their ads. If they don't hire only PFE's, won't they hire you as an FE and get you your FE ticket ?

Anything to get the edge in today's market.

If your bent on doing it, Aeroservice in Miami is an ok place for the -72.
I doubt seriously if the rating alone is going to give you an advantage, for an advantage you would still need some expereince behind the panel. If you really think so, why not go ahead and get typed as a pilot? The cost is going to be about the same.

Hate to be picky, but there are no type ratings associated with a FE certificate. The ratings available on FE certificates are Reciprocating, Turboprop, and Turbojet. There are training requirements for each type of aircraft operated under Parts 121 or 125. This training must be completed in accordance with the operator's FAA approved training program.

Who said there was? Class ratings are associated with FE certificates, Type Ratings are associated with Pilot certificates. Ever see a Flight engineer Certificate without a rating?

The initial post on this thread is entitled "FE Rating". Your post mentions "the rating" and refers to "-72", whatever that might be. Since there's no such thing as a "FE rating" or a "-72" rating on a FE certificate, what kind of rating were you referring to?

I would say that an FE ticket with no actual experience is even less useful than a type rating with no time in type. Like Transpac said the company is going to have to run you through thier approved training program anyway, and if i'm not mistaken they will have to give you a checkride before you can fly, so there really isn't much in the way of savings for them.

My point exactly, you can't get IOE in a sim and basically the effort is for naught, still to many highly qualified FE's around looking for work. If you have the money to burn getting an FE ticket from a training provider, why not go ahead and get a pilot type?

Jump,

You look to be more than qualified for an FO spot. Have you considered approaching a freight operator from that angle ? Good luck in either case.
