You can do this all on-line. Firstfollow the link below on the fcc.gov site. You need to register with the system to get a FRN #.

https://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cores/CoresHome.html

After you receive your FRN number go to this link...

http://www.fcc.gov/formpage.html#605

Click on Form 605 and fill it out, once that is complete I believe it will guide you to Form 159 to pay the Fees. Once all this has been submitted your permit will arrive in the mail in about a week...

Form 605 and Form 159, but like I said fill out and get the FRN number first because you'll need it to accomplish all of this online...

Hey h25b,

this might be a dumb question but what should i fill in for the n number question. i am getting this license in preperation for interviews, not for any aircraft i currently operate. should i just put in the number for an a/c i fly now? thanks in advance for the info.

Where does it ask for that information? I don't recall the Form 605 for restricted operator asking for that information so I am wondering if you are filling out the correct form...

Thanks for the reply, I think I figured it out. It was the electronic version of FCC 605 Main Form. It asked "Is this license portable?" I chose no and it asked me for my N number. When i changed my answer to yes it removed that question.

It said the fees would be $105. Does that sound about right?

I think you're on the wrong track there. You are trying to apply for a station license, which is for airplanes. Since you were saying something about "interview", you'll probably want an operators permit, which is for pilots.

The starting point is here , there you can apply for a "restricted radiotelephony operators permit". Like someone already said, it's a 2-step process, first you apply for a FRN, then for the permit. You can do everything in one go, all online. If you can do this unassisted and sucessfully, you may apply for an airline interview. ;)

When I got mine a couple of years ago the cost was something like $30 or so.

Sunnfun is correct. When you select the "radio service" code DO NOT select AC for Aircraft. I made that mistake when I did mine. Instead, select RR as the radio service code. RR is for the Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Permit...this is what you want. The fee for this should be $55 if it is done correctly. Hope this helps.
