The Bossman wants to look into stepping into a Falcon 20 and was wondering if anybody had any info on the several different variants. What to look for, look out for, performance, etc, or where a good place to get that stuff would be. Thanks in advance.

OK, here is my $0.02 worth....

1. Stay away from the Falcon 200, the engines on it are very problematic and their aren't many out there....

2. Falcon 20 - Get one with Garrett's, make sure they are 731-5B not the -5A... The very early conversions were -5A (4,500 lbs thrust) the later are -5BR's (4,750 lbs). The -5BR's perform much better... Don't even bother with the old GE powered Falcon 20's, they are dogs and fuel hogs...

3. Get a Falcon 20F model, it carries more fuel than the others plus has full wing leading edge slats, this make about a 1,000 ft runway difference compared to a Falcon 20C model (the 20C has partial span DLE's (Droop Leading Edges))

Not sure what his budget is, but I THINK you can get a nice Falcon 20F with Garrett's (-5BR's) for probably around $5.5 million

Hope this helps!

And if you really want to get a great one, you should get one with the Collins Pro-Line 4 avionics suite. It makes a huge difference in what really matters to us and that's the gee-whiz stuff!! A Garrett APU is also a very desireable item.

I flew an early 20. The HYD system leaked on a regular basis. There is an upgrade kit for the HYD system, but it will still leak. So I say stay with a later aircraft.

The question is, what are your aircraft needs? Typical #Pax? Typical Baggage? Range? Airports? Runway? Price?

Maybe we can offer you some better alternatives.
