And if I did something this stupid, I would have hire an attorney and hope I could fly again some day.

Good ole boy Jimmy Inhofe. How come this doesn't surprise me at all.

Article says he knew the runway was closed but landed anyway. This guy is probably the biggest tool in the congress. What's sad is that he is a hero to many airline pilots...Says something about the judgement of these folks.

He should get Jail time if he indeed admits to knowing the runway was closed.

Congressman gets remedial training for almost killing 3 construction workers by deliberately landing on a closed runway. He gets remedial while an airine crew gets an EMERGENCY REVOCATION for missing their TOD. Such BS.
What's even bigger BS is that this story wasn't broadcasted on any of the big networks. How come this below hasn't been applied to him? What is the official FAA reasoning for letting him walk away?

Reminder:

91.13

Careless or reckless operation.

(a) Aircraft operations for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.
(b) Aircraft operations other than for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft, other than for the purpose of air navigation, on any part of the surface of an airport used by aircraft for air commerce (including areas used by those aircraft for receiving or discharging persons or cargo), in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.

He's only a hero to the experienced crowd because he was leading the charge, blowing hard about being able to ground loop his airplane as good at 75 as at 45.

If you ever did something this stupid you don't belong behind the controls of an airplane ever, ever again.

I agree but unlike the Congressman, I'd still need an attorney for criminal charges. The Congressman is obviously above the law and the regs.

its good to for us to have a get out of jail free card...by citing this incident if we ever get dinged for anything

It is not just congressmen, but anyone with political ties. At the last company I worked for, we had a Director of Maintanace who thought he was God's gift to aviation. He would strap his dumb rear end into a learjet a few times a year, and take whoever he was flying with along for a ride. One day, departing DCA, he missed the turn & violated the Prohibited area. The owner of the company happened to be good friends with President Clinton, and he called in a favor. The whole thing just disappeared. The only good part is that the young F.O. he was flying with didn't end up with anything on his record.

It's not just political- it's all forms of power- we all work with relatively worthless people who get promoted or not fired when they should bc they're related to or friends w/ the powerful.

Wonder why this is just making the news now- happened months ago...

I'm sure that him representing OK has nothing to do with it. I can't remember what that little gov agency is in OKC. I just remember them being part of the DOT. It escapes me now. Probably all just coincidence. Surely the offices keep their professional distance.

Quit bitchin and write your congressman!
I called 1-866-tell-FAA and let them know that there is a criminally dangerous pilot out there who needs his certificate revoked immediately and an inspector who is assigning 4 hours of ground school to a guy who knowingly landed on a closed runway, intentionally violating rules, damn near killing people.

I might not be enough to make them listen..................But if they get enough calls...............Both HE and the FAA work for us. Are you going to accept this?

At the very least, if you ever get into trouble some day and they want to come after your certificate, your lawyer will be able to point to this and call bull$***.

Doesn't matter how many sick calls you've got. As long as someone else on property who hasn't been fired has one more, they can't touch you.
