As someone who is in the process of getting FAA to Indian license conversion here is my advice:

1. Get a FAA license... cheaper / easier and also more flight time.
2. if you get a student visa to come to the US you will be allowed to work for one year AFTER completing all your licenses. Use this time wisely and fly your ass off.
3. An education is an education... period. Unless you plan to go to a top tier school, you are better off going to Embry riddle and getting a degree in anything.... cheaper and will also allow you to continue to instruct while you are enrolled in the Aviation university.

LASTLY... forget about Lufthansa, BA,or ANY of the EUROPEN airlines unless you are an E.U. resident. To that end forget about wasting time, energy and effort on the JAA it is of NO use to your situation. Conversion from JAA or FAA to entails the same exact steps. Jobs in Canada are scarce and Canada is actually a net exporter of pilots worldwide. For details about India contact your favorite DGCA at Safderjung Airport in Delhi... also on the web.

So ... you have 2- 4 years of studying and flying ahead of you to earn your certificates and your degree.... without a doubt CLARITY will come in that time. Good luck !!!

Flying in India is very expensive. So if someone really wants to work here, they have to get it elsewhere and come and convert. Let me just put it this way .. I've never seen a GA aircraft in the sky .. ever ..

My answer would be is to obtain Indian licenses. If that cannot be done, obtain licenses that are most easily converted to Indian licenses. If JAA can be converted easily that's what you should do.

Be sure that if you come to the U.S. to train that your school has a JAA program. Although by now you might turned off to DCA, I believe it has a JAA program. So do some other school(s) in Florida. It cannot hurt if FAA certificates are part of the deal, but your primary objective would be to obtain JAA or whatever licenses that you can convert to Indian licenses.
