I have an Irish student who wants to get his PPL through me. He was wondering if he could convert the private to the Irish one without too much of a hassle? Is Ireland member of JAA?
yes ireland is a member of the jaa.i used to have an irish flight instructors licence, the regulations may have changed but i am sure he will have to take all the written exams, and a flight test.he should check out the irish aviation authority web site, that should anwser a lot of his questions.sorry i cannot be more helpful but i have not instructed there for a few years.
Wow i rememeber the days of IONA, watching there C-172s and that C310 they had at the back of Dublin Aiport. Its amazing where Iona once was has changed so much.
Flying,
Its possible but hes taking the long route converting a FAA PPL to a JAA PPL, it would be quicker and cheaper in the long for him to go to a JAA approved school here in the US.
There's (I'm sure there are more somewhere else, too) a joint down in Fla. that handles a lot of these type of things. I have a friend from England who went there and did his FAA crossover(for lack of a better term) in about a week. A little less, I believe. If someone doesn't come up with the name I'll get it and put it up here.
Ok, what this guy wants is to fly here until he solos and then resume training in Ireland. The other issue is with the dumb DHS/TSA background check requirement. What is the fastest way we can get him finger printed? The TSA flight training site doesn't list anywhere in state of WA.
Another flight school operator i know once told me that you can get fingerprinting forms and call a police office to your facility and have the student finger printed here.
