Unfortunately the body was found...great guy - I knew him personally. Another brother in arms lost...

AP) The body of a pilot whose F-15 fighter jet crashed into the Pacific Ocean has been recovered, the Oregon Air National Guard said Wednesday.

The remains were nearly 40 miles west of Cannon Beach, which is on the northern end of the Oregon coast, the Guard said in a statement.

It did not say when the body had been found. The pilot was not immediately identified.

Former Langley guy? I didn't know him....or his bio.

A tragic loss none the less.....

I don't think that tune is appropriate at this time....

Airspace is usually 1k to 50k. Fight floors can be set by the flight lead based on training rules. Usually a 5k or 10k floor for BFM or ACM. Large force stuff and ACT (2 v 2, 2 v x, 4 v4, or greater) often fight to a 500 or 1000 foot floor.

Press is reporting airspace boundries--that is all....

God Speed. . .Like I always say about flying fatalities; I would rather die doing something I love than from a bad case of the nut cancer. .

That's what I figured. They made it sound like they were fighting down at 1K'. We usually run with a 5K hard deck, 10K soft.

To those who have paid the ultimate price. I knew him, a great guy, we flew together in Idaho.

SIG,
They could have been "fighting" down at 1K' - it just depends on your definition of "fighting". Most of the time with a full up fight (no RAG students), over water, it would be a 1K' hard deck and a 5K' soft deck. Over land it would be 500' vice 1K'. Unlimited maneuvering above 5K and limited below. Sounds like it was a full up 4v4 DACT war, so that make sense. He could have been "fighting" there at 1K' - making an ingress or egress or in his one 180 turn if he merged.

You guys are nuttier than us then. ACM training rules limit the hard deck to 5K or 5 above the lowest undercast. I can't imagine fighting 1K in a training enviroment. You go OCF and poof, you're done! Hell I have a hard enough time saving the deck at 5K. 1K and I may actually hit the ground/water.

We've been doing it for years dude. All our larger missions have a 1K floor and a 5K transition altitude. There have been very few issues - it's just a matter of strictly adhering to the TR's...something the Air Force is very intent on. Other services...I've seen otherwise....
