ExpressJet to drop 30 percent of flights for the fall, citing pricey fuel and overcapacity HOUSTON (AP) -- Regional carrier ExpressJet Airlines said Thursday it will temporarily slash its schedule by 30 percent at the end of the summer, citing soaring fuel costs and excess capacity in the market.Los Angeles/Ontario, Calif., San Diego and New Orleans will be the most frequently served cities following the schedule change, which takes effect Aug. 23. The carrier said it will also continue flying to the other 17 cities it currently serves.
ExpressJet said the revised schedule will remain in place through Nov. 15, when it will be reevaluated. It did not say how many total flights would be affected.
ExpressJet Airlines is a division of ExpressJet Holdings Inc., which in addition to its branded unit operates regional connecting flights under agreements with Continental Airlines Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc.
