Some tidbits from inside the ExpressJet hiring process:
"I'm going to roll out the interview process, see how it works, fix any kinks from there. The folks that ask the questions on the initial phone prescreen (which are pretty easy for a qualified pilot) to answer are not pilots, they have a script and the correct answers. Its not designed for the pilot to interview over the phone, just to answer a few simple questions that they will either know the answer to or not. If they don't, they may not make it, but, clearly their willingness to answer, their attitude during the call is being evaluated. Since we are not desperate, we don't have to hire folks who don't feel they need to put their best foot forward throughout the process.
The current pilot management team and the pilot recruiters will handle the face to face interaction and the pilots from the line who have expressed a desire to assist will also help identify the suitable guys and gals who make it past the first very simple pre-screen process. We have had over 3,000 pilots apply, we have eliminated a large number who didn't meet the mins set by the pilot management team, we have about 600 that we will interview that made past the first step. We will also change the questions from time to time, a lot of the candidates may not even make it past the web process to the phone interview but they can try again after 3 mos.."
Hope this helps . . . good luck!
