Request for Designations
ExpressJet asks the Department to designate ExpressJet Airlines. Inc. d/b/a Continental Express and United Express for Los Angeles-Durango scheduled combination service to be operated pursuant to a cooperative marketing arrangement between ExpressJet and United/Continental. ExpressJet plans to initiate service on this route upon receipt of all necessary government approvals using Embraer regional jet aircraft. and ExpressJet urges the Department to make this designation as soon as possible so ExpressJet can secure the necessary foreign approvals and United/Continental can begin marketing the new services well in advance of start-up.
No US or foreign airline is currently operating scheduled combination flights between Los Angeles and Durango. Thus, designating ExpressJet will not preclude any other US carrier from operating flights since another designation will remain available on this route. Designating ExpressJet will provide travelers and shippers with new US-Mexico service options. including the first nonstop Los Angeles-Durango flight,. and expand competition among the US and foreign carriers serving Mexico.
