ExpressJet Pilots Reach Tentative Agreement
Wednesday October 6, 5:41 pm ET

HOUSTON, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- After more than two years of intense negotiations with management, ExpressJet (dba Continental Express) pilot representatives, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), announced today that they have reached a Tentative Agreement on Contract 2002.

It's taken more than two years to reach this point, but our pilot negotiators secured substantial improvements to the current contract in the areas of compensation, job protection, work rules, and scope," said Capt. Mark Leneski, chairman of the XJT Master Executive Council, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l. "The determination and sacrifices of our pilots and their families made this Tentative Agreement possible."

Pilot representatives unanimously and firmly endorsed the Tentative Agreement, and recommended that the pilots vote "yes" on the upcoming ballot of the membership.

Contract negotiations between the pilots union and ExpressJet management have been ongoing since July 2002. Pilot representatives and negotiators will conduct roadshows for the ExpressJet pilots this week in all three hubs.

During contract talks with management, ExpressJet pilots and employees garnered ExpressJet the award of Airline of the Year in 2003.

ExpressJet pilots safely transport more than 50,000 passengers to more than 130 destinations daily on a growing fleet of state-of-the-art Embraer jets. These destinations range from St. Johns, Newfoundland, to Acapulco, Mexico, including the Caribbean. ExpressJet Airlines is the sole provider of small jet service for Continental Airlines in that company's hubs in Newark, Cleveland and Houston, and is the largest small jet operator in the world.

ALPA is the world's oldest and largest pilot union, representing 64,000 airline pilots at 43 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. http://www.alpa.org.

Actually LOA 15 has benefited most in the pilot group. Our NC have worked around the clock to get this TA. They have done their jobs. Now its up to us to read it and decide. Lets not cut to conclusions before we read the contract.
Thanks to all of you on the NC.

Didn't the pilot reps endorse LOA 15 as well. I mean the news is great but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. For the record I trully appreciate all the hard work our reps have put into this. I just hope we have better voter turnout for this than we did with LOA 15. And I hope TA-1 is a good one, worth all of our negotiators hard work.
Yes, the MEC endorsed LOA #15. After 10 months of operating under that LOA (and numerous tweaks, clarifications and improvements), LOA #15 now has an over 76% approval rating from our pilot group (gleaned from scientifically accurate phone polling). As an aside, when we first started polling on this issue back in the May/June timeframe, the approval rating was roughly 61%, or about that of the actual vote. So it seems that some people have changed their mind on the LOA.

I wonder what those approval numbers will be like when the system is crippled in stage 2 or whatever it's called when the restrictions are implemented.

Actually, as a result of the past 10 months worth of data, we have chosen not to use those restrictions and instead, to use a slightly different system that will a) prevent pilots from dumping their entire line into open time during the ILIW (thus not causing the other 95% of the pilots from getting the "max open duty period" message and b) will help ensure greater coverage at the start of the SLIW. This system is outlined in LOA #5 of the new TA. These changes will only enhance the usability and success rate of an already favorably-looked upon provision of our contract.

For what it's worth, I think LOA 15 and the ILIW rock. The only trouble I've had with it is the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** 30/7 message when my trade goes to 29hr 1 min. Other than that, it's made a dramatic improvement in my quality of life. Can't wait to see the improvements in the TA. Thanks again, Schwartz and the NC!

That's my favorite part BTW. Oh well. I can see how this will further open up things and allow for additional trading. Is it +10/-5 or +5/-10? I've forgotten.

I just want people to look at this TA

Forget both of them. There will be a 60 hour "floor" during the ILIW going forward. We will whittle that number down further with operational experience.

That sounds good initially. Thanks.

A very nice phone brief. except for the first few minutes of cursing while trying to get the teleconference to work. I might have to give a red card to the negotiating comittee. Excellent job guys. Definitely sounds good so far. And we kept our Vacation trip drop thing too...That was gonna kill any TA if we lost that.

I wish I could claim responsibility for the foul language but it was the P2P guys that deserve the kudos. I walked in at 1301 right at the start of the call! :D
