I am sure everyone is well aware of the difficulty in building "quality" flight time other than instructing, especially in these times. Could someone provide some guidance as to what a 600-hour CFII can do to build that "quality" flight time other than instructing?

Is sticking a note on pilots' Barons and other fine twin pieces of machinery a bad idea (i.e., rude?)

Much appreciated

Around here (AUS) - I'm constantly seeing bulletin board flyers for Traffic Watch. They're looking for CFI's with 500 PIC. Occasionally there are openings at the local Skydiving places - although those jobs are typically word of mouth - I never see anything advertised. I got my short stint as a jump pilot by just calling places and seeing if anyone needed anything.

You also hear about people sometimes being in the right place and right time to land a Part 91 job. All of my buddies that fly Part 91 jobs (5 of them) landed them by "knowing" someone first - they didn't just walk in off the street or reply to an ad. I think a lot of owners of smaller planes realize that when dealing with sub 1000 hour pilots, there's a HUGE range of ability and competence - so they feel better by hiring someone they know, or is somehow connected to them. I dunno - maybe slipping pieces of paper on Baron windshield will work, but I'm not sure that I'd bet on it! :p

Regardless, it's pretty hit or miss, and all the jobs I DO see available don't give you nearly the amount of flying time that instructing does.

Care to forward the contact info? I haven't seen a single flyer yet. You at GTU?

Scooter - I'm at both GTU and AUS depending on what I'm renting. I saw the traffic watch sign up at PCA at GTU two weeks ago. (Sometimes I see the sign up at Adventure or Wright Aviation too.) I haven't been flying since, so I'm not sure if it's still there. I'll be up there on Saturday to fly (if the weather is okay). I'll get all the info from the flyer for you then.

That's cool. I'll call Beth and get the info. She is a little busy today since she had one of her Duchesses land without the nose wheel. Made a nasty noise.

PS. Stop by sometime and say Hi at adventure.

Sc00ter...wow - I didn't know that. Which Duchess?

...please don't say 39Z...please don't say 39Z...

The one that just got back from the paint shop. White with two black stripes. Something Golf I think. I get all of her tail numbers mixed up.

Marco was flying and did a beautiful job of landing.

You know we got a Duchess right? $135 per hour. I had a pretty gnarly bird strike in it yesterday, but it should be back online in about week. I can do a check out if you need it. What are your ratings and times?

Must have been 33G. Man, that thing needed a paint job...and now that it has it, it'll be down for awhile! Bummer.

I've flown with Marco on numerous occasions - he's a heck of a pilot.

I'll PM you with my info. I've already talked to Rob about getting checked out in the Duchess. I'll have to do that at some point. :D
