I'm considering taking a expat pilot job in China. The company is offering....

2month on/1month off
115K yr
local medical insurance
housing
transportation to and from the US

Questions I have are.....

1. Am I nuts! lol
2. They are paying in USD, will or can they direct deposit in US banks.
3. If no, will I loose income in the transfer
4. Problems using a VPN internet connection to connect with US blocked web content.
5. Using a Iphone 4 (jail broken) in China
6. Using Skype on a jail broken iphone in China.

I'll probably have more questions but for now this is it..

Thanks

The questions for you:

On what airplane?

What happens if you get sick on the road - bad sushi, break a leg, slip n fall? Who pays for it?

What kinda housing? Is it an allowance or is it provided? Is it a Chinese hen house or Western quality hotel?

Is it economy or business class ticket?

Answers to your questions:

1. Yes, quite possibly you are.
2. Ask them... but be careful..
3. Usually you do, but it's not as bad as you may think - just stay away from Western Union. Stick with a worldwide brand bank like HSBC or something...
4. I'm not in China, but I know guys there using VPN and they're OK with uncensored internet.
5 and 6. Can't help ya there.

I'm getting $185K 45 on 20 off, business/first class ticket home, and a place to stay in Shanghai, car to the airport and decent medial on the A330, you can ask for more if you're flying a widebody.. that's RJ pay in China..

i get van to and from airport, 151k net take home plus private school tuition for kids a year, south china, and lots of foreigners so easy adjustment. no worries on VPN, no you are not nuts.. many guys from legacy and failed companies here. show me a job that pays 225 gross in usa and i'll take it. it depends on what part of china...beijing is colder than a well diggers a$$ right now.

I wish they'd need a dispatcher - our daughter is from China (Nanchang, Jiangxi Province), and we all want to go back!

We fell in love with it over there - but I will admit, when I saw the Burger King at the ZSPD International Departures concourse for the flight back to the states, I had thought I had died and gone to heaven....

Hi!

China is getting more and more desperate, and India and the Middle East is not far behind. Now you can go 747-400 Capt with no type rating in China-had always needed one before.

1 of the Chinese airlines just ordered 50 A-320s this week, and an Indian airline ordered 180, including 150 of the new generation models.
