The ALPA Executive Board unanimously voted today to assist all ALPA members, and their families, affected by the Southern California wildfires with all appropriate resources. They also urged pilots who are victims to request assistance from the ALPA Emergency Relief Fund (AERF). Any pilots requesting assistance should send an email to [email protected] or fill out an online emergency relief application. The funds are intended primarily for short-notice assistance for immediate needs. “With so many of our pilots residing in the area,” says ALPA President John Prater, “we want them to know that their union is here to help.”
The recent wildfires in the state have caused untold havoc and are still burning out of control. Approximately 1,000 homes have been destroyed, with many more in imminent danger, displacing hundreds of thousands of residents who are now living in temporary shelters throughout the region. Many of these shelters are reaching capacity. The state of California has been declared in a state of emergency.
The ALPA Executive Board also encourages ALPA members to support the AERF. If you would like to make a contribution, please click here. Anyone who contributes to the AERF can claim a charitable deduction on their Federal Income Tax Return.
The AERF, established to provide ALPA members and their dependents with grants and other financial assistance, will receive, process, and distribute donations to ALPA members—both current and furloughed/inactive—and their families who suffer financial hardship as a result of natural or man-made disasters, such as flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, landslide, air crash, fire, drought or civil disturbance.
